Adapted from the Opera La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi conductor Onofrio Claudio Gallina
Violetta: A Traviata
A semi-staged version by Giuseppe Culino

First performed at LA Fenice Theatre, Venice, in March 1853 La Traviata, the three-act opera by Giuseppe Verdi, is a narration of the tragic love story inspired by the play The Lady of the Camellias by Alexandre Dumas’ son, revolving around Violetta Valery, a famous Parisian courtesan of the 18th Century and Alfredo Germont, an upper middle-class young man.In Violetta, La Traviata, Giuseppe Culino emphasizes Violetta’s perception. As in the play by Alexandre Dumas’ son, the narration starts with Violetta dying of tuberculosis in the confines of her bedroom. She evokes memories from the past of her love for Alfredo and their short-lived happiness that ends in Alfredo’s father imploring her to abandon the relationship for the sake of her lover and his family. An Indo-European project promoted jointly by The Neemrana Music Foundation, the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Centre.
